Larratt Report Follow-up
The WLLID Board would like to thank all the folks who participated in the June 17th public meeting where the findings from the water and sediment study conducted by Larratt Aquatic were presented.
The Board greatly appreciates the almost 100 residents who showed up, either in person or online.
We are currently in the process of writing a report based on the Feedback Forms. It is almost ready for publication and will be available on the WLLID website.
The feedback also contained a number of questions for Larratt Aquatic and WLLID. The questions for Larratt have been submitted. We await their response and will make it available on the website.
A number of questions for the WLLID Board are being collated and a written response underway. It will also be available on the website.

Clean, Drain and Dry
A concern raised by residents, among many, revolved around invasive mussels.
As mentioned in the Larratt report, Wasa has a high level of calcium in the water which facilitates the growth of shellfish including invasive mussels. According to Larratt, the “risk threshold” for calcium is >12 mg/L. (Larratt, pg. 14)
Here at Wasa, Larratt reports the calcium level is anywhere from 22.6 to 29.3 mg/L. This means there is more than twice the amount of calcium needed for invasive mussels to grow and flourish in Wasa water.
WLLID strongly supports the Clean, Drain and Dry program.
Signs are posted around Wasa to remind those using boats (of any size), seadoos, kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, sail boats and other personal watercraft to avoid transporting water from another lake, stream or river.
Please be vigilant about keeping water from other sources away from Wasa.

Trustee Election
Currently there are two Board vacancies due to Trustee’s resignation.
As well, there is one other Trustee whose term is up which means there will be three (3) open Trustee positions that will need to be filled. A fourth position may also be open as the current Trustee is moving away from Wasa.
The Board has decided to forgo a by-election, for now, and wait until the WLLID AGM. The exact date is yet to be determined, but will take place in late October or early November.
As stipulated by the BC Provincial government and the WLLID Letter Patents, persons eligible to be a Trustee must be 18 years and older, a Canadian citizen and BC resident who is named on the land title of a property within the jurisdiction of the WLLID.
If you have an interest in being part of the WLLID Board, please email admin@wasalake.ca so that we can keep you informed about nomination and AGM dates.
AGM and election information will be in the October Buzz and on the WLLID website.
