Larratt Report Access and Presentation
In the spring of 2025, WLLID Board contracted with Larratt Aquatic to conduct a study into water quality and sediment assessment here at Wasa.
The water and sediment sampling took place from May to September, 2025. The WLLID Board assisted with the work needed to collect samples.
Larratt’s report is now available on the WLLID website. Here is the link: https://wasalake.ca/reports/.
The WLLID Board is preparing plans for a meeting at the Community Hall sometime in June, July or August. WLLID is coordinating schedules with the Board, Larratt researchers and the Community Hall.
A live stream of the meeting will be available for those who are not able to attend in person.
Please check the WLLID website, www.wasalake.ca for up-to-date information on the presentation date and time.
All comments and feedback should be directed to admin@wasalake.ca.
Water Level Update
While the water here at Wasa began rising a few days before, on April 27th the level reached the WLLID’s lake gauge. This was 15 days earlier than last year when water reached the gauge on May 11th, 2025.
As of 20 May, the water level at Wasa was 767.27 masl (meters above sea level), which was not reached last year (2025) until June 3.
Today’s water level is 0.50 meters (1 foot 8 inches) higher than the same date in 2025.
A comparison of current and last years lake and river levels is shown in the graph.
Water level updates can be found on the website: www.wasalake.ca
Also on 20 May, the Floe Lake snow pack was 32.19 inches (snow water equivalent) which is 115% of normal. The snow pack level at Floe Lake has a significant impact on the Wasa peak water level.
WLLID expects the peak water level to be higher than last year.
On June 1, we will publish an estimate of the peak water level. It will be posted on the website, www.wasalake.ca.
E. Coli Volunteers Needed
WLLID is looking for a number of volunteers to share gathering weekly water samples from 6 beach locations around Wasa. Having several volunteers means that no one person has to do all 12 weeks of sampling on their own. With three or more volunteers, each volunteer will only need to sample twice over the summer months.
Water samples from beach locations are taken either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Once samples and paperwork are completed, the sampling bottles need delivery to Cranbrook Public Health Unit before 12noon. The Unit only accepts water samples on the first three days of each week.
Water sampling begins on the week of June 22nd. Weekly sampling runs through to Sept 9th. Training provided. Gas reimbursement available.

Taxpayer Survey
The WLLID Board is looking to prepare a survey to obtain feedback from taxpayer’s on a range of topics including the level of taxation, now currently $50 per year per parcel, and direction, concerns and priorities the Board should deal with over the next several years.
Communication regarding the survey will be sent to taxpayers when details have been finalized.
The 2026 WLLID property tax invoices are now being mailed out. The deadline for payment is July 15th.
When paying, please be sure to reference the invoice number so the payment is attached to the right account.
