Next WLLID Board meeting, 10th June at 7pm, Community Hall, lower level. Residents welcome to attend.
On April 8th, the WLLID Board met for its regular monthly meeting.
Heavy rains in the mountains during March kept the Kootenay River higher than normal for this time of year, which in turn keeps the water at Wasa from dropping to its usual late April and early May lowest level.
As of 13 April, the snow pack at Floe Lake sits at 128% of normal with 38.07 inches of snow water equivalent.
Floe Lake is a key source of water for the Kootenay River which drives the level of water here at Wasa.
The high snow pack suggests that water levels at Wasa should be higher than last year.
WLLID will issue our peak water level estimate on June 1st. It will be available at www.wasalake.ca.
In preparation for the upcoming water season, several Trustee’s participated in a BCLSS (Lake Stewardship Society) refresher webinar on water testing.
A review of procedures and equipment (the YSI Pro-solo) maintenance will make sure all water testing volunteers are ready for activities starting in late May.
Any residents who would like to volunteer for weekly on-water testing can reach out to admin@wasalake.ca.
Other early season preparations include examining two flood control flap gates, two water level gauges and a ground water level sensor. The flap gates are located at the south end of Cameron Pond and the west side of Highway 93/95 at Hanson’s channel. Water level gauges are located at the north end of Ponderosa Road and at the Kootenay River.
This year the WLLID is looking to purchase a new electric boat motor to replace the one that was damaged, beyond repair, last summer. In addition, a solar battery charger will be added.
Plenty of swans, geese and ducks were still on the water in early April.
The next WLLID Board meeting will be May 13th, 7pm at the Community Hall, lower level. All residents welcome to attend.
If you wish to make a presentation to the Board, please notify the Corporate Officer at least one week in advance by emailing admin@wasalake.ca.
